The AWCC Telescopic Materials Handler program is aimed at providing the candidate with the knowledge and skills to operate a Telehandler in a variety of situations and terrain that are found in a typical remote or construction type work environment.

The one-day course is suitable for persons working in the following industries:

  • Building & Civil Construction projects
  • Mining including Oil & Gas Drilling and Well Servicing lease activities
  • Transport & Logistics
  • Agriculture and Farming activities
  • Any industry activity that requires the movement of heavy loads or cargo over un-sealed or versatile yard/lease surfaces.

There are many providers on the market today. What’s the AWCC difference?

AWCC have created a Telehandler program that was originally designed for land-based Oil & Gas lease build operations. The course focusses on working with the Telehandler vehicle over multiple terrain and the selection of multiple vehicle attachments that can be applied to a variety of practical field-based activities.

The Telehandler vehicle can be used for the following onsite work activities:

  • Forklift and Pallet moving Operations.
  • Light Crane Operations.
  • Towing functions as required.
  • Light Earth Moving Operations.
  • Other operations within the Resource & Infrastructure Industries.

Course Content:

In creating this program AWCC have aligned the Resources & Infrastructure Industries with Nationally Accredited Training to deliver the following program content. Working with AWCC’s fully accredited training staff the student candidates and/or your team will become proficient in the following:

  • State and Federal Law regarding vehicle operation along with associated WH&S regulations.
  • Assess work environment identifying site hazards and their associated risks.
  • Prepare the Telehandler and attachments for a variety of work activities.
  • Perform Telehandler pre-operational vehicle safety assessment and checks.
  • Perform work activities is a safe manner adhering to site policies and procedures
  • Perform multiple functions of the unit such as fit and secure various attachments along with lifting moving and safely placing goods or cargo specific to your site requirements.
  • Extend and retract telescopic materials handler boom under load.
  • Understanding the importance of Operator maintenance inspections and reporting of faults and maintaining service schedules.
  • Ensure all equipment is kept in good working order.

Note: Although this unit of competency is Nationally Accredited Training, please be advised that Legislative and Licensing requirements can vary between States and Territories and specific site policies and procedures must always be adhered to.

AWCC have a team of highly experienced trainers with earthmoving, transport, logistics and warehousing backgrounds, having used Telehandlers in a variety of field-based applications.

The program is designed to be delivered face to face classroom style, supported by several practical training activities that can be tailored to your company’s operational needs. This approach makes training onsite that is highly relevant to your business activities.

Student Requirements:

  • Student should be at least 18 years of age (WH&S Req.)
  • When required, successfully complete/pass a brief LLN assessment (WH&S Req.)
  • Reading Required: Able to identify and interpret information from workplace policies and procedures, other documents, legislation, and regulations.
  • Able to calculate, identify operating capacities and safe working loads.
  • Hold a Standard C-Class Drivers Licence.
  • Able to provide two (2) forms of I.D.
  • Wear Basic PPE: Work pants, Shirt, and Steel Toe Safety Boots.
  • Practical Training Considerations: Sunscreen and Hat recommended.

Course Outcomes:

Candidates who successfully complete both the theory and practical elements of the course will be issued with the Nationally Accredited Unit (SOA) – RIIHAN309F – Conduct Telescopic Materials Handler Operations along with a photo ID card for your wallet.
