Description

The AWCC Break and Make Flange Joints program has been specifically designed by industry experts with many years of mechanical knowledge that are interested in sharing their real field experience. This unit of competency aligns to the technical information found in:

ASME PCC-1-2013 Guidelines for pressure boundary bolted flange joint assembly.

The course is aimed at those working in industries that involve the construction and maintenance of pressure containment vessels such as pipelines, hydrocarbon transfer stations, refineries and process plants. In addition, other job roles that include the breaking and making of manifolds associated with Blow Out Prevention devices and associated equipment within the Oil & Gas Drilling and Well Servicing industries.

Exclusive to the AWCC program, the course not only covers the use of hand tools to break and make bolted flanges but goes further to include the use of pneumatic and hydraulic powered torque wrenches and pressure testing operations that demonstrates to participants the integrity of the newly installed fibre and soft metal gaskets within the unique AWCC piping or manifold system.

Replicating real life work scenarios and experience is the AWCC goal.

Course Outcomes:

By enrolling in the AWCC Break and Make Flange Joints using hand tools course participants will gain the following skill and knowledge:

  • Refer to the relevant sections of ASME PCC-1-2013 Guidelines for pressure boundary bolted flange joint assembly.
  • Understand Permitted Work and processes including pre-job checks and worksite inspections.
  • Confirm Work Site is De-pressurised, and Isolations are in place.
  • Identify Flange Serial Numbers along with Gasket Types.
  • Understand Tool Types and Applications.
  • Flange Inspection Prior to Breaking or Dismantling.
  • Inspecting Flange Components.
  • Correct Procedures for Flange Preparation.
  • Installation and Assembly Methods and Instructions.
  • undertake post flange and gasket installation pressure testing and checks and inspections.
  • Installation and Maintenance Record Keeping.
  • Reporting Expectations following site policies and procedures.

Training and Assessment is predominately conducted at the Australian Well Control’s training Centre in East Brisbane fortnightly.
