The AWCC Forklift Training Program conveys the skills required to competently operate a forklift truck. Upon successful completion each participant will be eligible to apply for a high risk work licence which will enhance employment opportunities. Successful participants will receive an AS1 form (Assessment Summary Form), which is mandatory for applying for a High Risk Work Licence with Workplace Health and Safety.

Please NOTE: Applications for High Risk Work Licences must be made within 60 days of the student achieving a pass score on their theory and practical assessments.

This course has been designed for new operators as well as those more experienced who require refresher training. Our experienced High Risk Instructors are committed to ensuring our trainee participants receive the skills they require to display confidence and competency when operating a forklift truck.

Forklift Training provides advantages for those already in or wishing to join the Energy, Resource, Construction, Transport and/or Retail sectors.

To successfully complete this certification, participants must:

  1. Be at least 18 years of age
  2. Have completed a Yr 10 education “desired” (LLN Tests will be provided, please notify AWCC if Language, Literacy or Numeracy is a problem? We can help!)
  3. “Desired” have the ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  4. Provide three (3) separate, matching original forms of evidence (ID) prior to course commencement “What evidence will be accepted, what do I need to provide?”
  5. Please note: Arriving without the full compliment of ID will result in your training being postponed.
  6. Have the correct PPE will be required, e.g. “Safety Boots, Long Pants and Long Sleeve Shirt which should be highly visible for Practical Training and Assessment”.
  7. Each student must be prepared to complete pre-course modules prior to the commencement of the program.
  8. Finally, course homework will be issued each evening and completion of such is a mandatory requirement of the program. All homework will be reviewed, the diligent completion of these resources has been proven to enhance the success of students who are required to complete their mandatory closed book written examinations.

Learning Outcomes

The key areas covered by this course include:

  1. Assessing hazards and planning the work
  2. Planning and setting up the forklift ready for operations
  3. Conducting risk assessment and implementing control measures
  4. Conducting routine checks of equipment
  5. Operating the forklift
  6. Maneuvering forklift around various routes
  7. Practicing different types of lifts and carrying various weights
  8. Calculating and determining load capacity
  9. Shutting down and securing the forklift.

Log Book Requirements

xxxxxx In the absence of any evidence of relevant experience, toward informal training a Log book or other training record showing evidence you have undertaken supervised practical training under the direct supervision of a person holding the relevant licence are required in for high risk licence courses.

Log book hours or other training records are completed by the trainee and a qualified site supervisor to ensure skill gaps nominated by the xxxxx Trainer are closed out and verified before the applicant can be proposed for the Mandated Assessments.

Learning Methods

XXXXX Successful completion of the unit of competency requires sufficient evidence of onsite or face-to-face training and a competent result for the closed-book knowledge assessments and practical assessment.

Delivery Option 1:  3-day face-to-face training sessions and final assessment.  Delivery length may vary dependent on client needs.
Delivery Option 2:  Initial enrollment, induction and logbook issue to learn while operating under the supervision of a licenced operator at your workplace, and final assessment (please contact The Australian Well Control Centre to discuss Delivery Option 2).
