This qualification reflects the role of a supervisor in a drilling operation. The tasks performed involve a high level of autonomy and require the application of significant judgement in planning and determining the selection of equipment/roles/techniques for themselves and others. They are required to demonstrate the application of a broad range of technical, managerial, coordination and planning skills.
Pathways & Opportunities:
This qualification is aimed at rig managers and senior drillers who have operational experience and wish to advance to a rig manager role. Successful completion of this qualification may contribute to credit towards the Advanced Diploma of Drilling Management.
Participants should already be employed within the oil and gas (on shore) drilling industry or have prior experiences within this industry that can be verified.
Participants have 24 months to complete the qualification from commencement of the course.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Recognition of Prior Learning recognises your existing experience gained through life or work for which you may not have obtained a formal qualification. We will work with you to identify your existing skills, and assess if you can then achieve a full or partial qualification. This also helps to avoid unnecessary duplication of training, saving you time and money.
Assessment will be conducted via a number of options, for example, written assessment, interview, workplace/simulated workplace observation, review of samples of work or verification by supervisor/employer.
Requirements for Completion of the Qualification
The following provides the packaging rules for this qualification, followed by the list of relevant units of competency.
Total number of units = 11
- 6 core units, and
- 5 elective units of which:
- at least two (2) must be chosen from Group A
- at least one (1) must be chosen from Group B
- no more than one (1) may be chosen from elsewhere within this training package, or from another endorsed training package, or from an accredited course
All elective units selected from outside this qualification must reflect current occupational and learning outcomes of this AQF qualification level.
There are both licensed and non-licensed units of competency relating to high risk work in the Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package. To be appointed under any statutory requirements in related roles, units of competency should be selected to meet the state/territory licensing requirements.
There are prerequisites to imported units listed in this qualification. Where a unit is imported as an elective care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisites specified are complied with.
