  1. TLIF3091 Apply awareness of dangerous goods and hazardous materials requirements.
  2. TLID3015 Identify and Label Explosive/dangerous goods.
  3. TLID0014 – Load and Unload Explosives /dangerous goods.

The training content in these three (3) dangerous goods units combined are critical to moving transported goods that have been designated as dangerous from one destination to the next in a safe and efficient manner.

Students participating in the program are taken on a learning journey that focuses on firstly raising the awareness of dangerous goods and the importance of how labelling and the correct storge during transportation contributes to safe handling of chemical and other dangerous substance. TLIF3091 Apply awareness of dangerous goods and hazardous materials requirements

This unit can be delivered as a stand-alone course and focuses on the skills and knowledge required to have a heightened awareness of hazardous substances and dangerous goods requirements.

With a strong focus on safety and legislative compliance the unit covers critical items such as:

  • Types of Dangerous Goods.
  • Chemical Reactions between a variety of dangerous goods/substance.
  • The importance of when to segregate and segregation when handling hazardous material.
  • Safety responses to critical incidents involving hazardous materials.

In general, this unit acts as information for personnel that are not directly involved in the work activity of transporting dangerous good however need to be highly aware of how hazardous substances and dangerous goods are labelled and segregated when being transported. This course is exceptionally valuable for those working in procurement and logistics roles within your organisation.

TLID3015 Identify and Label Explosive/dangerous goods

Unit Detail:

This unit can be delivered as a stand-alone course and focuses on the skills and knowledge required to have a heightened awareness of hazardous substances and dangerous goods requirements.

Course Content:

  • Assessing and preparing/planning to manage the safe cartage of explosives and other dangerous goods.
  • Safe Handling procedures when labelling explosives and/or dangerous goods.
  • Understanding legislative compliance and responsibilities when it comes to completing required documents and records and how these records become critical step within and organisations Chain of Responsibility plan.
  • Displaying a high awareness on where to locate the relevant Australian state/territory standards that relate with the carriage of explosives and dangerous goods.

TLID0014 – Load and Unload Explosives /dangerous goods

Unit Detail:

Another complimentary unit of competency clustered into the AWCC Dangerous Goods Management & Handling program is the Load and Unload explosives and dangerous goods component.

The course covers the following:

  • Through approved documentation and signage, the identification of explosives and/or dangerous goods.
  • Utilising the correct equipment perform the Loading and unloading explosives and/or dangerous goods.
  • Ensure the correct lashing procedures to protect both vehicle and transported load.
  • Final inspection checks on both vehicle, vehicle markings and load security for lashing integrity purposes as required.

Dangerous Goods Essentials Course Outcomes

It is recommended that students have and minimum yr.10 level of education and display good reading and writing skills. Successful participants will need to demonstrate the following:

  • Confidence in applying tools such as the Hierarchy of Control to eliminate, minimise and control identified hazards.
  • Complete relevant legislative documentation regarding the estimation of a loads size, shape, and special requirements with a strong focus on explosives and other dangerous goods.
  • Be proficient in the identification and interpretation of containers and other goods coding, in particular cargo markings and emergency information panels.
  • Understand the characteristics of varying modes of transport and/or storage and the selection the safest method.
  • Become familiar with various loading equipment options.
  • Understand practices identifying load labelling in accordance with National/State or Territory classifications.
  • Become familiar with subsidiary risk information such as vehicle signage and substance markings that are compliant with regulatory bodies regarding the loading and unloading of explosives and/or dangerous goods.
